The Future of the Next-Gen Mazda Miata Electric

Mazda Miata electric

The automotive world stands at the cusp of an incredible transformation, and the much-anticipated next generation of the Mazda Miata electric is poised to be a central player in this electrifying journey. In this article, we will explore the electrified revolution that is set to reshape the iconic MX-5 Miata as we know it.

According to Mazda, the 2026 MX-5 Miata will run on electricity. However, the automaker has chosen not to specify whether it will be entirely electric, hybrid, or a plug-in hybrid. This step is crucial for the Miata’s survival through 2030, as Mazda aims to electrify most of its lineup by then (and we certainly hope this comes to fruition).

Mazda MX-5 Miata Platform and Powertrain

Mazda has announced its collaboration with Rohm Co. to develop electric powertrains and has inked a battery development partnership with Envision AESC. While these agreements might influence the next-generation Miata, a hybrid roadster appears to be a more practical choice.

The compact size of the Miata could pose challenges in fitting a battery with sufficient range, as a large battery pack could affect performance, and full EV equipment would likely lead to a substantial price increase. To keep the car affordable, Mazda might explore collaborations with other automakers, similar to the approach seen with the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra.

Electrification: Embracing Sustainability

In response to growing environmental concerns and the imperative to reduce carbon emissions, the automotive industry is undergoing a profound shift toward electrification.

Mazda, a brand renowned for its commitment to innovation, is aligning itself with this global movement. The upcoming MX-5 Miata will feature an all-electric drivetrain, promising a thrilling driving experience while embracing sustainability.

Preserving the Soul: Design and Innovation

Mazda’s unwavering dedication to the “Kodo” design philosophy ensures that the core essence of the MX-5 Miata remains intact. The sleek lines, expressive curves, and driver-centric cabin design will continue to define this iconic roadster.

With the integration of advanced electric propulsion technology, the next-gen MX-5 Miata will stand as a testament to Mazda’s innovative capabilities, all without compromising the soul of the car.

Miata Electric Estimated Price

While Mazda strives to prevent the Miata from becoming overly expensive, considering the advanced powertrain and other changes, a price in the range of $33,000 seems plausible.

When Can We Expect the New Miata Electric?

We anticipate that the next MX-5 will be available just in time for the summer of 2025, the prime season for top-down driving, as a 2026 model year vehicle.

Conclusion

The upcoming Mazda MX-5 Miata represents more than just an evolution of a beloved sports car; it signifies Mazda’s unwavering commitment to a sustainable and electrifying future.

As we eagerly await the electrified roadster, let us keep in mind that progress often necessitates change, and this change will guide us toward a future where excitement and sustainability harmoniously coexist.
