Never has a single vehicle been able to bring back an entire class on its own like the original NA Mazda Miata MX-5.
Near the end of the eighties, the Mazda leadership decided that they would love to try their hand in manufacturing such a machine with a small twist regarding the ones made in England.
Unlike the famous Lotus Elan which was the inspiration for the NA Mazda MX-5, the Japanese counterpart would take the beating from the mountain road chew it up, and turn it into a huge smile for the person gripping the steering wheel.
So apart from the lightweight fun-to-drive chassis, the first Mazda MX-5 had something that most other small sports cars of its time did not have, reliability.
The reliable 1.6-liter engine provided a bit less than 120 horsepower, which might not sound much by today’s standards. However, the 7200 redline and the lightweight of the car made sure that you can keep up with much more powerful cars on a twisty road.
What was even better was the fact that for a few bucks, you can purchase a vast number of NA Miata MX-5 interior and exterior aftermarket parts and accessories, which will turn this little daemon into a serious track weapon.
